The history behind the pink ribbon!
From the very beginning, the pink ribbon which indicated breast cancer awareness has been entangled in the controversies. Today, few individuals from the moment wear it proudly and few still hate it with a great passion. However, to a great part of the media and the world, the ribbon is still a symbol of the breast cancer movement but not many know the story behind it and from where did it originate from. Let's read below.

The history behind the use of this ribbon as a token of recognition can be followed back to the 19th century. During that time, women used to wear yellow ribbons to remember loved ones serving in the military. The concept gains huge popularity in America when in 1979, Penny Laignten, spouse of a man held prisoner during the Irian prisoner crises, tied yellow ribbons on trees outside her home to show support for her husband and other prisoners. After 10 years, an activist art group Visual AIDS propelled the red ribbon at the 45th annual Tony Awards IN 1991. They utilized a bright red ribbon, circled it up and stuck it on the chest of actor Jeremy Irons.

A breast cancer survivor, Charlotte Hayley presented a peach-coloured breast cancer awareness ribbon. A card attached to the ribbon said, "Enable us to awaken for administrators and America by wearing this ribbon." Later she approached by Alexandra Penny, a supervisor in the head of Self magazine, who needed to adjust Hayley's idea by working with her. However. Hayley rejected expressing that self-magazine was excessively commercial.

Inspired by a red ribbon, The Susan G. Komen Foundation likewise passed out pink ribbons to all breast cancer survivors (Cancer Specialist in Delhi NCR) and members of the Komen New York City Race for the Cure. Later, Alexandra Penny editorial manager in-head of Self magazine and Evelyn Lauder Vice President of the Estee Lauder organizations and a breast cancer survivor herself together established the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and built up the pink ribbon as its symbol. The first Breast Cancer Awareness Month was held in October 1986 and the pink ribbon turned into an international symbol in 1991. Today, the month October is considered as breast cancer awareness month and celebrated worldwide. Visit cancer consult India to know more about Cancer Specialist in Delhi
